One of the
most important aspects of a water feature is clear water. Stagnant,
green or even brown water can turn a focal point into an eyesore. To
keep the water in a water feature clear, it must have a good filtration
system. The systems we install make use of three different filters and
beneficial bacteria to keep the water crystal-clear.
The first filter is in
the skimmer box. The pump is housed here, and draws water in from the
pond. The water first passes through a net bag that collects large
debris. The water then passes through a fibrous pad to collect finer
debris before it enters the pump and makes it's journey to the
waterfall.
Once the water reaches
the waterfall it enters at the bottom of a large chamber, where it is
forced upwards through three more fibrous pads. Once through these pads
it enters an area of porous stone. This stone is where the beneficial
bacteria (that we supply) live, filtering out algae and other things
that contribute to dirty water. Finally, when it passes through these
stones it splashes down over some artistically placed splash stones,
back into the pond. And this is performed on the whole volume of water,
once every hour, leaving your water clear, right to the bottom.
