Finishing Touches
for the Display at Brick and Supply

Today we were
finishing up the construction of the paver and block display at Brick
and Supply on Prospect in Appleton. Stop by to see a sampling of
our work, and say hello to Pam and all the friendly folks there.
Be sure to ask for a Stonehenge Portfolio CD ROM, where you can see a
multimedia presentation of more of our work.

See
us at work

Brick
and Supply, the Fox Valley's Unilock distributor, and one of our
suppliers, has hired us to design and install the hardscape display at
their Appleton location. Work has already begun, and in the coming
weeks we will complete this mix of styles, colors and textures to give
you an opportunity to see what's possible for your own property.
So if you have some time, stop by and say hello! We'd love to see
you. Brick and Supply is West of highway 41 on Prospect Avenue
in Appleton.

Old Man Winter
Blows One More Time

Looks
like the midwest has been hit with ice and snow over the last few days
as old man winter tries in vain to hold onto his season. Parts of the
Midwest and middle America may get more over the weekend.
Ice coated most of Wisconsin Thursday night, and as the thaw began
today, plants began to find their way out. Below is a Lilac bud in my
backyard from earlier today.

Reason #34 to
hire a landscape professional for your project instead of doing it
yourself:
You get to
use your whole driveway, all summer long.

This pile of
excavated soil is so old that weeds have grown, bloomed, gone to seed,
and started new crops of weeds.
Our average project
takes 2-4 days to complete, giving you full access to your driveway and
your whole yard, all season long.

Rumbled,
Tumbled Pavers

The
tumbled look is in!
Above
is a picture of a paver patio we recently completed using tumbled
pavers. They are a concrete paver (clay pavers wouldn't stand up
to this process) that was put in a tumbler, and tumbled over and over,
nicking up the corners and edges, leaving a finished product that looks
like natural stone, but installed leaves a uniform surface perfect for
any patio furniture.
Because
there is more time and handling that goes into manufacturing tumbled
pavers, you can expect to pay $1.00 or more per square foot for tumbled
pavers.

And
these pavers, to best achieve the intended look, should not be cut in
the usual fashion. It's one of the many details that makes a patio
installed by Stonehenge special. Ask about it when you call to
discuss paver options.

Appleton
man spotted watering driveway - Crazy?
Hardly.
Our design challenge at this 75 year old home was to create a driveway
that harkened back to the days when the home was built. That
included drives that had narrow strips of paving to accommodate the
narrow wheels of the buggies and cars of the day, with turf between
those strips.
With
today's advances in paving materials, we were able to create a drive
that has both a full width of functional, structural paving, but also
has turf areas between the Hollandstone pavers to remind us of days long
ago. The voids in the honeycomb-like Turfstone (c) were packed
with quality topsoil, then hydroseeded. These pictures were taken
two weeks post-seeding.
In
just a few weeks he'll be mowing!!

We
can cure your Volcanoruptitis
For
those of you who have a water feature in your yard, are you suffering
from Volcanoruptitus? The symptoms include an eruption
of fieldstone boulders somewhere in your yard, piling up to form a small
volcano. This volcano then produces a continuous eruption of water
into a pool or pond below.
Other
symptoms include less than enthusiastic visitors to your backyard,
coupled with your mild disappointment.
Our
staff can cure this disease, turning this:

What a Spring!!
First
we have weather warm enough to make us want to turn on the air
conditioning, then just a few days later we get covered in a 3"
blanket of snow!! No grilling out this weekend!
I was
out in my yard on Saturday covering up as
many bulbs and perennials as I could, so they wouldn't get frozen in the
storm. I hope your delicate plants hold up as well as mine look to
be.

doesn't do it justice!).

We hope to see you
there!

My wife and I just
got back from a extended weekend getaway to Charleston, South
Carolina. In the 3 1/2 days we were there we managed to take 5
rolls of pictures, though the pictures were predominantly aimed
downward! (You'll see what I mean when we get the photos
developed)
We saw some
cobblestone streets and some granite stone streets, as well as bluestone
for miles, mixed with clay pavers used in walks, drives, streets and
parks. Because of the climate they install pavers a little
differently than we do in Wisconsin, but again, we'll tell you more
about that once the pictures are developed and I can post them here.

We'd like to swing open the
doors and welcome everyone to our newly improved website. If
you've visited before, you'll notice a dramatic change in the look of
the site. But there has also been a substantial update of the
content of the site.
Some of you who've visited have
asked for larger pictures so you can see some of our work up
close. Done. We've created photo galleries for you to view
for each of the services we offer.
Some asked to have the 'Care
Tips' we hand out at the end of projects included on the site, in case
they misplace them. Also done. We'll soon add photos with
those pages to help you better understand what you need to do to care
for your landscape.
We've added archives to review
'seasoned' materials, and in general made this website a place to
discover a great deal about us, and about what our professionals can do
for your property.
